Infants
At the infant level we are introducing the learning environment, language, and creating a seamless transition from home to school. We give infants one-on-one attention, helping new brain cells connect and promote feelings of security and confidence. Once the babies feel stable, it allows them to explore the environment around them with teacher guidance. Toddlers In the toddler classroom we are promoting the next developmental stage as they move from the infant room. We focus on creating spaces where they can explore, investigate materials and gain sensory experiences. The teachers introduce a language rich environment with narration and play by play methods. We focus on allowing the child to explore their own personal interests at this age. Two’s Two year olds are becoming independent at this stage and we are excited to watch them grow! We collaborate with families to individualize child needs such as potty-training and other self-help skills. Expressive language becomes more apparent for this group as teachers continue to encourage verbal skills. Preschool (Ages 3-5) As a child begins preschool, this is the introduction to a more structured learning environment. A heavy focus will be placed on academic small groups, fine motor skills, and social interaction. We utilize the project approach and child-led topics as we shift our focus to a more structured setting. We are going to be noticing the feelings and emotions of ourselves as well as others. All of these things work together to facilitate school readiness. School-age For our school age program, we offer transportation to and from the child’s elementary school. In the classroom, learning centers are set up and free exploration is encouraged. A homework club is in place, encouraging peer tutors as well as teacher guidance. We use the space at Avant Garde as an extension of the classroom. Extended care programs are offered when your child’s school is out. Our summer camps are STEAM based, which is an “educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process.” |
